Thank you very much for participating in the meeting earlier this week, and in your support for having me contribute as president for the next year. I look forward to making the club and its members more active; so please make recommendations when you see a chance for an activity that you think will interest us. From the Jun 24th zoom meeting I picked up that we need get get going on making some of the items on the calendar a "reality" - I will reach out to the winery owner we visited last year in June and see if we can get out there in the next few weeks. I will hold a club leadership meeting in the next week or so to try to get us all motivated. I know we need to update out calendar of events with more input and actual announcements on how we sh…
Please add notes from tonight's meeting in the comments.
My notes are as follows:
John is looking to divest himself of some, but maybe not all of his current duties that include, but not limited to: Club President (Move a new president in the near future); Chief Judge (I'm not clear if John is Ok keeping this); Concours chair (someone (maybe Doug) indicated an interest); Slalom organizer (again someone indicated an interest)
There was unanimous agreement that John had done a marvelous job steering the club for many years and especially during the troubles that Covid presented to the club.
Greg Furst put his hat in the ring for president, but I was unclear if there needs to be a vote or if we need to see if others are interested in the role before Greg can be inaugurated. (comments would be helpful) Thank you Greg for offering your services.
As requested, the following are my comments on the meeting notes and commentary above:
1 - I think that one-year terms are too short. Reason being that the person would experience only one event (say concours) during their term. No sooner would they gain experience than they’d potentially be turning over their role. I’d suggest somewhere between 18-36 month terms.
2 - Whether the monthly meetings are in-person or virtual, I suggest the following to keep them productive:
a - an agenda be set and sent out in advance
b - some form of secretary/adjutant function be established. The secretary would “run” or facilitate the meeting to keep it on track and to adhere to the agenda.
c - formal notes be taken and decisions recorded. These would be verbally summarized at the end of the meeting and then sent out to the club and/or posted to the web site.
d - I’ll volunteer to assist in this area
3 - To address John’s concern about “who’s in charge”, in the military system, the President is in charge. Period. The Vice acts as a stand-in or backup. However, the two of them decide how they divide and perform the workload. If they keep each other informed of what they’re doing or being asked, they can quickly clear up any confusion on the off chance that happens.
4 - I support Greg for President in case my vote wasn’t captured in the on-line meeting.
Regards,
David Serber
What a beautiful car. I look forward to seeing it at one of our club events. Next time you are just zooming around finding beautiful cars, let me know and I'll be there with you.
